Description
As a citizen from Arab world / Middle East, I’ve personally experienced how a ‘good governance’ can offer a prosperous life to its people … and vice versa of course! This personal experience has a great impact in forming my passion about good governance and empowering people to participate in deciding the way government run their country and manage it's resources.
In addition to this, I’m intrigued by the technological changes around us and the evolving non-linear world it creates. I strongly believe in it as a great enabler of ‘good governance’.
That's why I've been focusing on Open Government for the the past few years, and I consider myself luck to have the opportunity to work in the public sector in United Arab Emirates where.
I've successfully led or contributed to the implementation of several important initiatives to promote the practices of open government in UAE public sector such as the development of government wide Social Media Usage Guidelines

, the launch of Open Data section at the UAE national portal (government.ae).

I'm continuously engaged in activities to promote effective usage of social media by government official and agencies, one of the key latest activities I've done in this matter is planning and supervising live tweetups of government officials with citizens. This included the (#AskUAETRA) session with His Excellency Mohammed Al Ghanem Director General of TRA and (#AskSalem) session with His Excellency Salem Al Shair - Director of Federal eGovernment program.
I'm also an active research and author in this field, my latest publications include:
Publishing a paper titled "The State of Open Datain GCC Countries" at the 12th European Conference on eGovernment (ECEG12)

A book chapter titled: Social Media Corporate Policies for Government Organizations: Lessons Learnt from the United Arab Emirates. The chapter is publshed in the US within an edited book titled: Active Citizen Participation in E-Government: A Global Perspective.
And I'm aslo a blogger! On my blog (iBadawi.com) I cover the progress of open government and related topics across the Arab world!
I'm here on Edgeryders to connect and collaborate!
